Small business is challenging as it is, without having a suitably competent manager or even staff members one appears to aim for disappointment, just getting the proper folks for the job is precisely what one must have.

While we are discussing about topics relevant to Job Search vs. Career Management, When you are out of a job, guess what... finding a job becomes your job. Your goal every day is to get up and regroup. Keep a journal of where you have applied, who you have talked to, and what they said. Follow-up with anyone that kept the door open to potential future employment.

I, on the other hand, beg to differ with Olivier on his second statement because I feel it is down to the individual themselves. People with technical or non-technical background both have the same playing field in respect to their career path it is how each one manages that makes a difference.

I come from a technical background myself but now I am in sales which I maneuvered myself into based on where I want to be in the future.

Therefore I feel it is up to the individual whether they are there for a job hunt or career management. As the famous saying goes "Nobody plans to fail they just fail to plan".

Very good point indeed. From my experience, career management is less understood by people with a technical background.
